I've finally sorted out the pictures from the trip so far. Sorry my posting has been nothing more than blips lately, my internet access has been real touch and go.

The first stretch has gone better than I could have imagined. The flights have been easy with good company. Japan was brief, The stop in Taiwan was unexpectedly lavish. and I've fallen in love with Vietnam (in Vietnam). Tomorrow I will be catching a train north toward Beijing China.
I'll update pictures soon as I figure out how.

[17 Nov 2008|09:19pm] |
It snowed yesterday! It's probably the only time I'll see snow all year.
Yesterday Nyanyan and I spent the day exploring the island. So far we've traveled over 2000 miles together, all the way around the island, down to the tip of South Point and all the way to the top of Mauna Kea (13,796 ft).
I'm quite proud of my trusty little scooter.

Things are starting to sort themselves out here on the big island. I'm living/working on a coffee farm in Captain Cook. My afternoons are spent down at the Kona Airport learning about and working on airplanes. And it's looking like I'll be picking an extra job at one of the coffee shops around Kailua. I got a superfly scooter to get about the island; I need a haircut.

| September (for the most part) |
[30 Sep 2008|09:09pm] |
Tramping about on the islands has been lovely. I touched down on The Big Island, jumped across to Maui, spent time with Cody and his family and did a lot of wandering the island (I love Codys family). Last week I caught up with Stelth and we jumped over to Oahu to catch up with the family over here (a year and a half later and I'm finally back). Stelth meet up with his ship mates the other day and they are making preperations to sail to the west coast, it was extremely nice seeing him before he sets out and I settle down. I'm now busy looking for work and a more permanent place of residence. At this point I'm not even sure which island I'd like to stay on.

Going from Colorado to Hawaii is kind of like being dropped in an alternate dimension, with new critters, new colors, and lots and lots of water. So far I made friends with a airplane mechanic and a paramedic, walked about 20 miles, nearly got in a fight with dogs, stayed in a resort hotel, spent a lot of time by the beach, and I might have just landed a temp job while making this post. All of yesterday a fine haze blended the still ocean with the sky, making it look as though the world just dropped away leaving nothing but sky at lands end

Since May...
For the first two months of being back in town I did everything in my power to resist settling down. I wouldn't sleep in the same place more than one night in a row, I wouldn't commit myself to anything for longer than an afternoon, continuing to live out of my backpack.
For the six months that followed, I more or less re-created the life I had before I left; I moved back into the same place I lived before, with the same roommate, I picked up both of my old jobs again, and got a steady girlfriend.
Starting the first of the year; I dropped almost everything and moved across town for boarding school life and juggling kittens.
If you were wondering where I disappeared to... I'm holding the kitten on the top left.

I arrived in San Francisco on Friday. I've been here before, not only that but it's a place I distinctly remember exploring as a child. My first familiar stop since leaving the States.

The line between boys and girls. This image is taken from a advertisement for La Triviata originally a beautiful image of a woman on a couch. Though I've drawn a man or that's how it seems, little differences, chin, eyes, slight differences in shading change this image from that of a woman looking empty and devastated to the image of a man looking confident and forward as opposed to looking away. Now these changes are unintentional and are a clear reflection of my limitations in drawing gender and expression. Though it brings the question of what are the subtle differences between the sexes, what are the differences between varying expressions. How does one breath life and emotion into a drawing. Is it all a matter of skill of the art or is simply knowing men and women and being able to see expressions with your pencil or pen.
